1st Modern Finance Conference (MFC)

Call for Papers

 

We are pleased to invite researchers, academics, and practitioners in finance to present their original research and engage in stimulating discussions to advance financial knowledge and research excellence. This conference aims to provide a platform for the dissemination of cutting-edge research, innovative ideas, and novel approaches across all areas of finance.

The program will include keynote addresses, research papers presented in concurrent sessions, poster presentations, and panels with journal editors. The conference will be held in a hybrid format, combining in-person and online sessions.

MFC 2024 is co-organized and hosted by the Department of Finance at Kozminski University, the #1 Business School in Central & Eastern Europe.

Proposals for special sessions, roundtables, and panels are welcome and should be sent directly to the conference chair organizers.

Best Paper Awards

Prizes will be awarded in the following areas:

  • Best Paper Award: 1000 EUR and a fee waiver for the next MFC
  • Runner-up Award: A fee waiver for the next MFC

All authors of full papers submitted to the conference will be considered for the award.

Special Session on Profit Shifting*

The conference will include a dedicated session focusing on recent developments in profit shifting and the Global Anti-Base Erosion Rules (GloBE), in particular the second pillar. We invite theoretical and empirical research exploring issues such as the impact of corporate governance or ownership structures on profit shifting, the role of financial and non-financial reporting in this context, and the influence of institutional or regulatory governance on reporting standards. Topics may include the balance of payments and the investment position of non-financial corporations engaged in passive income transfer to non-residents. Prof Ilan Alon

Prof. Ilan Alon

The College of Management Academic Studies

Prof. Ilan Alon is Dean and Full Professor of the School of Economics at the College of Management Academic Studies (Israel) and Professor II at the University of Agder (Norway). He holds a Ph.D. from Kent State University (USA) and his previous academic experience includes top universities worldwide such as Harvard University, Georgetown University, Copenhagen Business School, and Jiaotong University.

His research revolves around crypto economics (digital currencies) and international business. His works have been published in top-tier journals and resonate within and outside of the academic world. He also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Emerging Markets.

Prof. Alon also has served as a consultant to various government agencies, such as the United Nations and USAID, and multinational companies, such as Disney and illy. Finally, he is a frequent speaker or writer on various international networks including National Public Radio (USA), Voice of America (USA), and the Financial Times (UK).

Prof. Oded Stark

University of Bonn, University of Warsaw

Oded Stark is Distinguished Fellow at the Center for Development Research, University of Bonn, and Distinguished Professor at the University of Warsaw. He served as Adjunct Professor at the University of Tuebingen, Distinguished Research Scholar at Georgetown University, University Professor (Chair in Economic and Regional Policy) at the University of Klagenfurt, Honorary University Professor of Economics at the University of Vienna, Professor of Economics (Chair in Development Economics) at the University of Oslo, and as Professor of Population and Economics and as the Director of the Migration and Development Program at Harvard University. Oded Stark is Doctor honoris causa (University of Warsaw), a Humboldt Awardee, a Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Poland) Lifetime Achievement Awardee, and a Presidential Professor of Economics (Poland).

Prof. Oded Stark is a prolific researcher whose outstanding work has been published and cited in top economics journals. In the RePEc / IDEAS ranking of economics professors, he is listed three times: top 1% in the European Union, top 1% in Europe, and top 1% in the world.

Publication Opportunities

All abstracts of papers accepted for the conference will be published in the book of abstracts.

After the conference, authors will be invited to publish their full paper either in the:

  • MFC 2024 Conference Proceedings – deadline: November 30, 2024
  • MFC 2024 supporting journals – deadline: December 31, 2024

Full papers submitted to the Proceedings of the MFC 2024 Conference Proceedings will be subject to an expedited peer review process, with reviewers being primarily members of the conference committees.

Authors may also choose to submit their full papers to the supporting journals of the conference, and their submissions will be reviewed according to the journal's review criteria. Please note that acceptance of a paper to the conference does not guarantee publication and that only a limited number of outstanding papers will be published by the journals.

Submissions

How to Submit

Please submit your full papers or extended abstracts via the Eventsadmin platform by June 30, 2024. To submit, click the "Submit a Paper" button below or follow this link https://mfc.eventsadmin.com/.

We accept papers in Word or PDF, in any layout and format. For those submitting extended abstracts, we provide a simple template that can be accessed here. Please ensure that your extended abstract is at least 300 words.

Authors may present their studies during regular oral presentations or poster sessions. If you wish to present a poster, please indicate this on the registration form.

Researchers interested in the Special Session on Profit Shifting should select the appropriate option in the submission system.

The language of the conference is English. All submissions and presentations for the conference must be in English. Please ensure that your papers, extended abstracts, and presentations are written and delivered in English to facilitate effective communication among participants.

If accepted, the author will receive a Confirmation of Acceptance, which clearly states that the paper has been accepted into the conference program. Please note that you will receive confirmation of acceptance by email within four weeks of submission.

MFC 2024 will be held at Kozminski University, the #1 Business School in Central & Eastern Europe. Kozminski University is about a 30-minute drive from the Okecie International Airport and 15 minutes from the center of Warsaw.

The conference fee does not include accommodation. There are several hotels in the vicinity of the conference site. In addition, the following hotels offer special rates for conference participants:

Discount codes will be provided after acceptance of papers. Please note that all conference participants and presenters are responsible for making their own hotel reservations and paying their own hotel expenses.

Hospitality
